Spellcraft Skill

You are skilled at the art of casting spells and can channel the energy and weave the spell with desired affect. You can also use this skill to avoid losing your spell if you are damaged or distracted while casting and to sense magic in the area.

 Check

Spellcraft is used whenever your skill of the art of channeling casting a spell comes into question. The DC of this check varies depending upon the task at hand. If you are casting a spell, and you succeed at the check, you may continue casting the spell as normal. If the check fails, the spell is wasted. You can also detect the energy of magic in the area and the condition.  You can tell if an area is stable, wild, enhanced, decreased, or dead. You can tell if magic has been used in the area recently or is still active.

Action

Identifying the energy of magic in the area requires no action. Making a Spellcraft check to avoid losing a spell as it is being cast or concentrated on does not require an action.

Retry

You cannot retry checks made to identify the magic in an area and must wait to the next day. You cannot retry a Spellcraft check to cast a spell while distracted, as the spell is lost.
